Born to a musical family on the south coast of England, Darren was immersed in music at an early age. A sister who began to show great talent as a pianist and clarinetist, and a father with an obsession in playing guitars ensured that there was always much musical influences and healthy competition within the home. Creativity undoubtedly came from his mother’s genes which provided the impetus to compose music.

 

His home town of Brighton, with its bustling hot-pot of different live musical styles and hybrids made an excellent place to learn about the complexity of the audio world.

 

By the age of 5, Darren was already experimenting with programmatic themes on the piano; inventing new storylines to run in parallel with the music. Songwriting began to develop during his early teens along with a strong sense of melody.

 

An interest in computer based sequencing started around 14 years of age, although his first sequencer would be the Korg M1, which remains in use today.

 

A-Level Music followed and then an HND Music Composition course at Coventry University. Here began an interest in orchestral composition. He would one day like to hear one of his pieces performed by a real orchestra.
